Marketing sucks…

I know how it is, life can feel tough and selling for a business can feel the same. You may have started the business becuase you were either good at something or had a great idea for a solution to a problem but goodness….

It does NOT Sell itself!!!!

Whoever came up with the idea of a good solution selling itself has never actually had their own business or worked in Sales. It can sometimes feel like an uphill journey trying to connect your product with the right customers.

Sometimes it feels like people are intentionally hiding from you - but you know you have the answer to help them with their problems. If only there was a better way to connect them to your solution.

There is and it is called Marketing. O great a comedian right?

We’ve all heard of this but it just doesn’t seem to work right? We’ve boosted a post, recorded and uploaded some type of video but these things have simply felt like wastes of time.

I think the honest way to think of this is to be honest.
We all honestly tried a little. Most of us have committed some kind of effort to marketing and some have committed a LOT of effort! There are many people who felt like this effort was all for not.

We all expect that effort to magically work or magically make things better and most of the time we don’t feel that it does. As a result of feeling like we waste time we cut back on whatever those marketing efforts are and cut our losses.

The thing that I have had to keep in mind is that there are companies with fulltime marketers who create marketing tools for products and companies as their full time jobs.

As a CEO, business owner or whatever your title is why do we think that our little bit of unskilled, “Let’s make it happen” mentality is actually going to produce results? We can mean well, but without strategy and direction we’re simply firing shots into the air hoping something good happens.

Our target could be getting attention. This is a good start but go deeper.

Our target could be Male Physicians from 45 to 65 making 100K-150K per year living in Stone Canyon. There’s even more that you could specify but this give you a very targeted approach to who you are speaking to. - assuming that this would be your end client.

This step was only taken on the targeting phase of Marketing, then you take every effort dividing it up between different parts and needs of the sales process. You strategically speak to this targeted set of people in a way that relates to them and they understand.

These are steps that take a waste of time and convert it into a process that contributes to the sales process. They are little steps that line up into a journey.

so Marketing can feel like it sucks, but I believe that each organization and each person has ways of marketing that better line up with their personality and are easier to address. It might be hard at first but speaking to past and potential customers is the life blood of any business.
